The Crew

Our Philosophy

Here at Mt. Nittany Wheelworks, we sell bikes from Trek, Gary Fisher, Lemond, Santa Cruz, MAverick, and Independent Fabrication. We sell what we ride and ride what we sell. We have carefully chosen to stock select bicycles from each brand that we feel make sense for riding in Central PA and present the customer with the best value. If you see something from one of our suppliers either in a catalog or on a website that we don't have and that you are interested in, let us know. We can discuss it with you and are always happy to do special orders.

It is important to note that we DO NOT do Internet sales. We feel that coming in to our shop and trying out different models and sizes with the assistance of our informed staff is integral to the purchase of a bicycle that you will be happy with for years to come.

storefront1.jpg Since you are reading this now, you are at least considering purchasing a bike from an IBD (Independent Bike Dealer) rather than at a big box store. You can certainly find a bicycle for cheaper at Wal-Mart, but low price does not necessarily mean value. First off, there will be big quality differences in frames and parts (nicer alloys, nicer grade of components, better wheels, etc.). If you find did a cheaper bike that has some of the same parts as one that we have in the shop, there are other considerations when deciding on value.

We are a bicycle store. We opened Mt. Nittany Wheelworks because we love bikes and have chosen to make them our career. Over thirty years of combined bike shop experience have earned us the right to call ourselves bicycle professionals. Any bike you buy from Wheelworks will have many advantages over a big box bike, regardless of price. Since quality bicycles come in many different sizes and styles, one of us will make sure that the bike you are purchasing will fit you properly and is suited to the type of riding that you wish to do. All bikes come fully assembled and adjusted by our mechanics. While we are speaking of adjustment, like anything else that is new, a new bike "breaks in". Your cables will stretch, so your shifting will go out of adjustment. Sometimes the bearings and spokes loosen up. This happens with all new bikes, so for this reason we ask that you bring your new bike back after about twenty hours of riding so that we can re-adjust everything. In addition to this check-up for break-in, we offer a full tune up at no charge within the first year you own the bike to help get you in the habit of periodic bike maintenance. All of this is included with every bike that we sell because when a bike leaves our shop, we don't want that to be the last time we see it (or you!). Chances are, if we never see it again it is not being ridden. It is very important to us that our customers ride and enjoy the bikes we sell. It is not likely that the person working in the sporting goods aisle at that chain store feels the same.
