Favorite trail of last year?
I think it would have to be the portion of sassafras that we called no-name trail when we first opened it. I have been climbing up it for years, but just recently going down it has become the preferred direction. At just under 2 miles of a constant down grade, the ride is all about the flow, just like Bub Rub.
Oddest experience on a bike?
At the Shenandoah 100 a few years ago, I was all alone on a very long climb, when an apple fell from the sky. This was at about mile 70 so I was pretty delusional, and all I could think of was the flying monkeys from the wizard of OZ. I'd like to say that I got up the hill faster because of it, but at that point a flying monkey ride would have been OK in my book.
First real mountain bike?
I bought a Gary Fisher Paragon that was way too big for me. I didn't ride it too much because I just couldn't get comfortable or get it to shift right. I was able to sell it and get a Reparto Course Bianchi that rode like a dream until I folded it.
One day to ride anywhere?
I like long continuous trails, so I think I'd either like to try the Maa Haa Dey trail in North Dakota or the course for the Cream Puff 100.
